Day 1 & Day 2 - Departure and Arrival

Day 1: Departure from Lagos Airport
The Struggle to board the plane
At 4:00pm we set off on our journey to Atlanta & Chicago;  travelling with 74 students and 8 accompanied staff. Everyone had been split into groups with group leaders (staff).

Check in ended at 7:00pm for us and we had to move on to security and immigration.

We took advantage of the long wait,  sitting on the floor like refugees and just having fun and eating quietly amongst ourselves . Finally, a shining light came through; Delta Airlines had sent one of their staff to bail us out of the line because we were basically on the verge of missing our flight and that wasn't going to happen.

The plane DL550 had been waiting for 74 Day Waterman students and 8 accompanied teachers to board the plane. We kept on moving  until all the students stormed into the plane arrested all the seats in the economy class and we were all ready for our journey of 12 hours and 45 minutes to Atlanta.

DAY 2:Arriving and getting ready to transit at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport,Atlanta
"Ladies and Gentlemen welcome to Atlanta" these were the first words we were told by the captain when we first landed in Atlanta.

This day wasn't a smooth ride as we were all exhausted as at the time of arrival and has to do baggage claim again. Thanks to Mr.Oniyide and some staff we got to know what to do & which baggage counter to go to. We started picking up our luggage and in approximately 10 minutes we had gotten our luggage and headed off for security this was quite speedy for us .

We had booked in to Delta for the second time, came out of security as quick as a whip and then met at our checkpoint(the end of the line at security ) the news came and met us : we were going to be split up into three groups and we were going to arrive at different times.

The Culprit
According to the members of staff that went with us we had been told there was to be a flight at 7:30AM , the other at 8:30AM and the 9:40AM flight.

During the wait for the second and third groups , we found out that a student from the first group was not listening and was waiting with us when his flight was due to take off in the next 10 minutes.
'we were just following one student' was the exclamation of all the students there and during all the murmuring we had jumped on two transit trains and had sprinted faster than light into his gate.
It was a smooth ride for us to Chicago and we ended today with a nice lunch,a cool room and a relaxing dinner.
